Privacy Policy

What we collect

  • Your IP address, used for matchmaking, rate limiting, and enforcement of bans.
  • A browser fingerprint (via FingerprintJS open source), used to prevent ban evasion.
  • Metadata about chat sessions: mode (text/video), start and end timestamps, and whether a report was filed.
  • Reports you submit, including the reason and any optional description.

What we do NOT collect

  • The content of your text messages with other people. Messages are relayed in real time and are not stored. (Chats with an AI companion work differently; see below.)
  • The content of your video or audio streams. Video chats are peer-to-peer via WebRTC; the server never accesses the media.
  • Personal identifiers such as email or phone number. No account is required.

Cookies and advertising

We use a small number of session cookies to keep the site functional. On static pages (home, about, safety, guidelines, blog, contact) we display advertising provided by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may set advertising cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can control ad personalization at https://adssettings.google.com.

We never display advertising on the live chat routes (/chat, /video).

Third-party services

  • Google AdSense — advertising on static pages.
  • Google STUN servers and our self-hosted TURN server — used to establish peer-to-peer connections for video.
  • Google Analytics — anonymous usage statistics such as page views.
  • AI providers (such as OpenRouter and Groq) — only for chats with an AI companion, see below.

AI companion chats

Omingle offers AI companions in two places, and both are always labeled: the Companion mode you choose yourself, and an AI fallback in text chat that may connect you while we keep searching for a real person. When you chat with an AI companion, the messages in that conversation are sent to our AI provider to generate replies. We don't store the conversation ourselves; we only keep the same session metadata as other chats (start and end time, message count). Don't share personal information with an AI companion, just as you wouldn't with a stranger.

WebRTC disclosure

Video and audio streams are transmitted peer-to-peer via WebRTC. This means your IP address may be visible to the peer you are matched with. We use a TURN relay in cases where a direct connection is not possible; when the TURN relay is used, your IP is not exposed to the other peer, but the relay does see connection metadata (not media content).

Data retention

  • Reports: 90 days (auto-deleted).
  • Session metadata: 30 days (auto-deleted).
  • Bans: until their expiration; permanent bans persist.

Your rights (EEA / UK)

If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal data we hold about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Because we do not collect identifiers such as your name or email, we may need additional information (such as your IP and approximate time of use) to locate your data. Contact us via the contact page to make a request.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be highlighted on this page.
